Shakira, pe numele sau complet Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, s-a nascut in Columbia la 2 februarie 1977. Este o cantareata de succes atat in America Latina cat si in intreaga lume. La sfarsitul anului 2001 a lansat primul album in limba engleza, Laundry Service, album ce s-a vandut in peste 13 milioane de exemplare. Ea a scris sau a colaborat la scrierea tuturor pieselor sale. Prima piesa a compus-o la varsta de opt ani. A inceput sa participe la diferite concursuri muzicale de la varsta de 10 ani. La 11 ani a inceput sa cante la chitara. Cunoaste limbile engleza, portugheza, italiana si se descurca in limba araba. Shakira are un IQ de 140. In luna martie 2001 s-a logodit cu Antonio de la Rúa, fiul presedintelui Argentinei - Fernando de la Rúa (1999-2001). Shakira poarta numele bunicii din partea tatalui. In limba araba Shakira si inseamna recunostinta. S-a nascut intr-o familie numeroasa, fiind cel mai mic copil. Este singurul copil al Nidyei del Carmen Ripoll Torrado, de origine columbiana cu radacini spaniole si italiene. Tatal ei, William Mebarak Chadid, este de origine libaneza. Shakira are opt frati vitregi mai mari, dintr-o casatorie anterioara a tatalui ei, dar nu mentioneaza de fiecare data faptul ca sunt vitregi, pentru ca sunt foarte apropiati.
